Councils and organisations in Capricornia can apply for a slice of a $200 million pie to help improve infrastructure in the region.
Round five of the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund is now accepting applications online.
It includes $100 million for tourism infrastructure and another $100 million for other, general infrastructure projects.
Federal Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry said the funding, which was announced in the 2020-21 Budget, would help mitigate the economic effects of COVID-19.
“2020 was a challenging year for our community, with bushfires, drought and a global pandemic but the BBRF will help to kick-start this new year, bringing support to community driven projects our at a time it is most needed,” she said.

Community organisations in Capricornia are being urged to apply for regional grants with the release of guidelines for Round Five of the Building Better Regions Fund.
Capricornia MP Michelle Landry said communities in the region had faced a tough year with bushfires, drought and the COVID-19 pandemic and encouraged them to apply for the grants.
“The Australian Government is here for our communities, we have the funding and we are ready to support them for as long as it takes through dedicated initiatives such as the Building Better Regions Fund,” she said.
“Throughout rural and regional Australia, we have $100 million of targeted support for tourism-related infrastructure to get regional tourism back on its feet, while maintaining $100 million for broader community infrastructure and investment.

$10 MILLION has been invested by the federal government for an upgrade to a key intersection at Isis River.
The funding joins another $2.5 million from the state government, with detailed designs already underway on the $12.5 million project.
Deputy Prime Minister and Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Minister Michael McCormack said the project would improve safety on the Bruce Highway.
“Our funding will construct dedicated turning lanes at the Buxton Rd intersection,” he said.
“To address concerns of local residents, the new lanes will separate through and turning traffic and reduce the potential for rear-end crashes.
“The Australian Government continues to roll out these types of major projects across the nation under our record $110 billion infrastructure investment plan, which is laying the foundations for our economic recovery.”

The blowout occurred because the Federal Government was forced to make significant changes to improve safety and overcome community objections. The Government says the total cost will climb to $14.5 billion, but project enhancements will further stimulate regional communities, creating 5800 more jobs and billions of dollars of extra economic activity. Queensland is expected to be the big winner from the new jobs, with an additional 4600 workers needed to implement the design changes across the five sections running through the state.
