Shares0 Last week, the state Department of Environmental Conservation issued an avalanche advisory, warning back country downhill skiers and snowboarders of possibly threatening conditions in the Adirondacks’ High Peaks and on other steep slopes. The advisory now remains in effect for the duration of the ski season, according to DEC spokesperson Jeff Wernick. Both local and national groups noted that, while avalanches are seemingly more common out west, that doesn’t mean they’re nonexistent in the northeast. And everyone, not just skiers, should be aware of the potential hazard.

(WFIE) - On Friday, the Regional Development Authority (RDA) for the Mid-States Corridor project met in Huntingburg. The RDA acts as a body to oversee spending and financial concerns regarding the project. At Friday’s meeting, the authority didn’t reach any decisions about the project. In most cases the RDA has no say in where or when the project will go into effect, they simply help bankroll the initiative.

Exciting times for Iskandar

RDA names interim CEO

The Regional Development Authority began to transition its leadership Thursday when its board of directors appointed Chief Operating Office Sherri Ziller interim CEO to lead the organization on the departure of current president and CEO Bill Hanna. Board Chairman Don Fesko also said the board’s officers, who include Vice Chairman Randy Palmateer and Secretary/Treasurer Christopher Campbell, will form a search committee to determine a permanent replacement for Hanna, who led the organization for more than a decade. Fesko thanked Hanna for his “leadership and friendship,” a sentiment echoed by other board members. “The type of leadership you’ve shown with the RDA is needed all around this country,” Gary representative Tony Walker said.
