We will discuss why Orr School was so important to the African American community in Texarkana. Then we will go over some of the people who worked to save the building and preserve a piece of history as well as what it takes to preservee a historic building.
This lecture that the Texarkana Museum Systems has put together for everyone in helping celebrate Black History Month . The lecture will take place at the Museum of Regional History 219 Stsaeline in Texarkana and admission is free.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) Every year locals and tourists flock to Pikes Peak to enjoy the mountain air and climb (or drive) up one of the more difficult 14ers in Colorado. But do you know the full story behind why it s called Pikes Peak?
It s believed that Pikes Peak is named after 19th-century explorer Zebulon Montgomery Pike, however, he wasn t the first one to name the mountain.
He might ve been the first white American explorer in the area to document his journey, but long before he ever set foot on the mountain, the Ute People called it Tavakiev or Sun Mountain.

CRITZ, VA – Curious adults ages 50 and older who are looking for opportunities to explore history, art, fitness, and more, are invited to join the Reynolds Homestead’s College for Older Adults (COA). The spring session for COA will begin April 19 and run through May 28. This session will be a hybrid session with lectures and discussions delivered via Zoom, and fitness and art classes held outside where social distancing can be observed safely.
COA is a membership program that offers 32 classes for members to enjoy. Those interested in fitness can choose among Moving to Motown, a gentle aerobics class designed to keep you moving and flexible, gentle yoga, line dancing, hiking and golf.
