The Trinidad and Tobago Ministry of National Security says the country is providing assistance to St Vincent and the Grenadines and Barbados as a result of the volcanic eruption ashfall which has covered both islands.
In a statement yesterday, the ministry said, “The devastating effects of the ash clouds from the eruptions of La Soufriere in St Vincent and the Grenadines over the past week, did not only affect the island and its inhabitants but extended eastward to Barbados.”

National Security Minister Stuart Young on Saturday said all was well with the 50 members of the Defence Force who went to St Vincent with supplies on Tuesday, as another vessel was expected to take more officers and supplies to the island on Sunday. He said they would join the Caribbean Disaster Response Unit.
Speaking at the 1st Infantry Battalion, Camp Ogden, Long Circular Road, St James where the heads of division of national security received their first covid19 vaccinations, Young said the foreign soldiers were also assisting with humanitarian efforts like getting supplies to various rural areas but were prepared to assist on a security level if necessary.

Covid-19 numbers in Antigua and Barbuda continue to fall as the incidence of new cases remains low and people recover from the infection, bringing active cases to the lowest they have been in 2 months.
The latest report from the Ministry of Health indicated that the Mount St. Johns Medical Centre (MSJMC) and the Santos Public Health Laboratory (SPHL) in Barbados revealed 3 new laboratory confirmed COVID-19 cases in Antigua and Barbuda as of Thursday 15th April.
Samples were processed by the SPHL in Barbados because the Regional Security System was unable to transport the samples from Barbados to the Caribbean Public Health Agency in Trinidad due to the closure of the Grantley Adams Airport in Barbados.
