Tamera Kohler, CEO of the Regional Task Force on the Homeless, considers San Diego’s challenges and somehow remains optimistic.
“I wake up every morning really sort of empowered to do this work,” Kohler said in a recent interview for the Name Drop San Diego podcast. “It goes back to the fact that I firmly believe this is a solvable problem. I get to see the data all the time. I get to see where the money is. I get to see the impact and the effort. I get to see that every day we’re ending homelessness.”
Kohler has worked on issues of housing and homelessness for many years in multiple locations, including serving as director of Utah’s homeless management information system and as director of Seattle’s homeless strategy and investment division. She joined the Regional Task Force on the Homeless in San Diego in 2017 as chief operations officer before becoming CEO in 2018.

Plans for a 52-mile trail system along the San Diego River are moving ahead through a new county task force of local nonprofit, tribal and government officials.
The goal of the San Diego River Park Task Force is “to accelerate the vision of an interconnected walk and bike system from Ocean Beach all the way to the mountains,” Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said in an interview Wednesday.
The task force met for the first time in March, when members identified priorities for the park, and again on Wednesday, to discuss funding for the plan. In coming months the group will set the route for a linear park along the waterway, decide on amenities, and propose a funding system for the improvements.
