The grocery giant announced store closures in all three cities following their passage of ordinances requiring large grocery stores to temporarily increase employee pay. “This is the closest store to my house and it’s a good store not as pricey,” said Judy Piggue, a frequent shopper who said the closure will be inconvenient for her and her family. “People are going to have to go to other stores and they are going to be more crowded.”

Brandon Richardson, who owns Deja Vu, told the Greg Morgan Morning Show his decision was based on prioritizing community safety amid rising cases of COVID-19 in the area. “We just want to see what we can do to do our part to try and make sure everyone is safe,” Richardson said. Richardson suspected that many customers were travelling from Regina, contrary to public health advice, which discourages non-essential travel to and from that city.
