SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (AFNS)
Scott Air Force Base’s innovation hub, Elevate, received Air Force approval to be designated a defense laboratory, Jan. 6. The approval marks Scott AFB as the first Air Force innovation cell to become an official defense lab for technology transfer purposes.
The designation as a defense lab allows the Elevate team to partner with educational institutions under an Education Partnership Agreement in sharing resources, equipment and information. EPAs, however, do not allow the sharing of funds.

NORTH BENTON–Arthur Knight Barnes II, 62, of North Benton died at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020, at Aultman/Alliance Community Hospital following complications to COVID.
He was born on July 27, 1958, in Miami, Fla., son of the late Arthur Knight and Carrie (Gray) Barnes Sr.
Art was nearly a “legend” in the music scene around this area. He could be found running the sound productions for many of the local bands. Ponderosa Park used his talents for 25 years until they closed. Art played in several local bands, Fox Fire, Joint Effort, and his own band, General Forces.
He recently had his own solo acoustic gig at the Ravenna Winery and other places in Alliance and Berlin Lake. The songs he often played were originals that he personally wrote.

Given the backlash against law enforcement in certain places around the country, Andre Licon said heâs reflected on the year thatâs been for members of his profession.
Licon is the community response officer for the Sutter County Sheriffâs Dept. He said heâs never had an issue with a resident of Sutter County and appreciates the fact that the region is supportive of first responders.
âItâs a thing thatâs beyond my control,â Licon said about how law enforcement personnel are perceived.
When current Sutter County Sheriff Brandon Barnes took over the department, he created Liconâs position. After spending two years as a correctional officer and about 14 as a deputy, Licon took over the new position. In total, Licon, 46, has spent 17½ years at the Sutter County Sheriffâs Office.
