Variety donates more than $37K for Broadlawns pediatric clinic improvements

Variety donates more than $37K for Broadlawns pediatric clinic improvements BY BUSINESS RECORD STAFF Monday, May 10, 2021 10:54 AM Variety – the Children’s Charity gave $37,584 to the Broadlawns Medical Center Foundation to support enhancements for the Broadlawns Variety – the Children’s Charity Pediatric Clinic, which provides care for more than 5,500 children annually. Variety’s gift provided funding for equipment and furnishings for the pediatric clinic’s waiting area and eight exam rooms. The funding also allowed for the purchase of state-of-the-art vision and hearing screening equipment to provide early detection of deficiencies, as children are more responsive to treatment at an early age. “The respective missions of Broadlawns and Variety are very closely aligned as both of our organizations are dedicated to furthering access to health care for children who are vulnerable and in need of care,” said Katie Wengert, Broadlawns

THE FDA SAYS THERE IS NOW PLENTY OF PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT NATIONWIDE, SO HOSPITALS CAN MOVE AWAY FROM CRISIS STRATEGIES. KCCI’S KAYLA JAMES TAKES A LOOK AT WHERE DES MOINES METRO HOSPITALS STAND NOW IN THE FIGHT AGAINST THE PANDEMIC. KAYLA: THE NEED FOR PPE WAS A CONSTANT STRUGGLE FOR HOSPITALS ACROSS THE NATION WHEN THE PANDEMIC BEGAN, LEADING TO HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS HAVING TO SANITIZE AND REUSE EQUIPMENT. HERE IN DES MOINES, THE HOSPITALS TEAMED UP TO PREVENT THE SITUATION FROM BECOMING UNMANAGEABLE. WE STARTED WORKING TOGETHER ON DEVELOPING SIMILAR PPE PROTOCOLS, SO THAT WE COULD MAKE SURE THAT WE WERE ENSURING THE SAFETY OF PATIENTS AS MUCH AS THE SAFETY OF OUR STAFF. KAYLA: DR. NICOLE GI

Reply (Shutterstock) JOHNSTON, IA The U.S. has reached what health officials have called a complicated stage of the COVID-19 pandemic, with cases and hospitalizations increasing in some parts of the country despite the quickening pace of vaccination. Nationally, the seven-day average of new cases, which had fallen steadily from its peak of nearly 250,000 in January, is rising again, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said. Over the week ending April 14, new cases averaged 69,577 8.1 percent higher than during the previous week, when the seven-day average stood at 64,340. More than 31.2 million cases of COVID-19 have been reported since the pandemic began.
