IMB trustees appoint 30 new missionaries as Lottie Moon offering nears $5 billion in cumulative gifts By Leslie Peacock Caldwell By: Leslie Peacock Caldwell February 4, 2021 International Mission Board trustees unanimously approved the appointment of 30 full-time, fully funded missionary personnel during their Feb. 3-4 meeting, and trustees applauded a report that cumulative international mission offerings have nearly reached a historic $5 billion. The new missionaries will be sent to eight of IMB’s nine global affinities. A Sending Celebration on Wednesday evening included the 30 new appointees, plus two missionaries previously appointed, and one sent in partnership with the Canadian National Baptist Convention. Both the Sending Celebration and trustee meetings were held virtually due to Covid-19 safety considerations.

Shreveport/Bossier s Annual Life March Event Will Not Be Taking Place This Year

Due to current COVID-19 restrictions and out of caution to keep everyone safe, Shreveport/Bossier’s annual Life March event will not be taking place this year. Instead, organizers are hosting “Stand For Life, Louisiana” on Saturday, January 23, at 10:30 a.m. in communities across the state. “Stand For Life, Louisiana” will allow participants to peacefully and publicly protest abortion while maintaining social distance and adhering to all state guidelines. Participants will gather along busy thoroughfares in cities across Louisiana and hold signs to share our message with the public. In our area, “Stand For Life, Louisiana” will be held in two locations: Shreveport in front of Broadmoor Baptist Church on Youree Drive, and Bossier on Airline Drive in front of Airline High School.

George Allen “Bub” Haile Friday, January 15, 2021 Dr. George Allen “Bub” Haile of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 11, 2021 at the age of 86 after a battle with cancer. Born January 17, 1934, in the small mill town of Ansley, LA, he grew up in nearby Jonesboro as the youngest of eight children. A lifelong learner, his educational journey began with a basketball scholarship to Louisiana Tech and continued on to Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, earning an additional Bachelors and a Master’s in Theology. He later earned a Master’s in counseling at Louisiana Tech and a Doctorate in Ministry at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.George ministered throughout Louisiana for over 40 years. He served as pastor of several churches until 1962 when he became the Director of the Baptist Student Union at Louisiana Tech where he mentored many students in their Christian faith for eight years.
