BUFFALO, N.Y. If you are having trouble paying for internet service during the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a new program that could help you.
The FCC s Emergency Broadband Benefit allows participating internet providers to provide a discount of up to $50 for those that meet the income requirements. Qualifying households that live on tribal land could receive up to $75 in discounts.
Here s how you can qualify to receive a discount:
Have an income that is at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines or participates in certain assistance programs, such as SNAP, Medicaid, or Lifeline;
Approved to receive benefits under the free and reduced-price school lunch program or the school breakfast program, including through the USDA Community Eligibility Provision in the 2019-2020 or 2020-2021 school year;
WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKBT) The Federal Communications Commission’s Emergency Broadband Benefit will make substantial discounts on broadband service and computers available to consumers beginning Wednesday.
The pandemic-related program will continue until the $3.2 billion in federal funding runs out or six months after the Department of Health and Human Services declares an end to the pandemic, according to an FCC news release.
Eligible households can receive the following discounts off monthly broadband service:
Up to $50 a month
Up to $75 a month for households on qualifying tribal lands
One-time reduction of up to $100 to buy a laptop, desktop computer or tablet from participating providers if they contribute more than $10 and less than $50 toward the purchase price.

The Office of State Broadband, within the Connecticut Office of Consumer Counsel announced it is working to help build consumer awareness about the Emergency Broadband Benefit, a new Federal Communications Commission (FCC) program. The temporary benefit will help to lower the cost of broadband service for eligible households during the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.

The $3.2B Emergency Broadband Benefit program provides a discount of up to a $50 per month toward broadband service for eligible households and up to $75 per month for qualifying households on qualifying Tribal lands. The benefit also provides up to a $100 per household discount toward a one-time purchase of a computer, laptop, or tablet if the household contributes more than $10 and less than $50 toward the purchase through a participating broadband provider.

BOISE â The Idaho State Board of Education is working to build awareness about a new Federal Communications Commission (FCC) program to help lower the cost of broadband service to eligible households during the pandemic.

âWe made great progress last year to close the âdigital divideâ in our state after our schools transitioned to remote learning as a result of the pandemic,â State Board President Kurt Liebich said. âThis program can potentially help us close the gap further and we want to make sure parents are aware of it.â
