Appointments for COVID-19 vaccination clinics at Hanover Area High School this week were booked by last Friday, even before they were publicized, frustrated readers said Monday.
Megan Griffith, of Dallas, said her mother, Sandy Bonawits, called a toll-free number 18 times Monday morning to schedule a vaccination appointment before she got through, and she waited on hold for 51 minutes before she spoke to a scheduling representative for Walmart, the sponsor of the clinics.
Bonawits, 63, of Plymouth, qualifies for a vaccination during Pennsylvaniaâs Phase 1A rollout because she has a heart condition, Griffith said.
âThe representative she spoke to was kind of surprised that the information about the clinics opening Tuesday was just in the paper this morning. She told her the appointments at Hanover Area had been booked since Friday,â Griffith said. âThere was an available appointment in Centre County, but that would be too far for her to drive.â

HUNTINGDON, Tenn. A big fear for government officials across the state has been the economic effects of COVID-19.
Many prepared for the worst, including Carroll County. But it turns out, they may come out of this crisis even stronger.
“We were really concerned we would see revenue decrease. Much to our surprise, the numbers continue to hold well and increase because we saw more shopping,” said Brad Hurley, the president of the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce.
The sales tax revenue surpassed $6 million in 2019 which was already good for a 22% jump over the 2018 fiscal year.
But in 2020, they surpassed $7 million. That’s a 15% jump from 2019, despite a pandemic forcing temporary shutdowns and other restrictions.
OLEAN â The Cattaraugus County Town Highway Superintendents Association donated a variety of toys and games to Olean General Hospitalâs emergency and pediatric departments.
For the fourth year the group has collected toys and donated them to the hospital to give to sick children. Representing the highway association were Diane Metz, Brad Hurley, Tom Benz and Bill Gernatt. They noted that the program started more than 25 years ago when they gave their donations to social services and it just grew.
âEverythingâs different this year,â Metz said. âWe normally collect items during our meetings which didnât happen this year.
