When it comes to the
Mortal Kombat franchise, thereâs one feature that arguably stands above the rest, fatalities. The gruesome coup de grâceâs have been an important part of the series since it first launched back in 1992. Fortunately, Simon McQuoid s upcoming reboot of the beloved franchise isnât afraid to lean into the more brutal finishing moves. One of the best, at least according to the cast, is performed by the metal hat-wearing Kung Lao.
Ahead of
Mortal Kombatâs release I had a chance to talk to Max Huang, who plays Kung Lao, about the practicalities of his character s fatality and if there was any CGI added in. When asked about the scene in question, he had this to say:

The
Mortal Kombat franchise is home to some seriously fun characters. Youâve got a ninja cryomancer, a hat-tossing martial artist and few demigods to name a few of the more popular choices. However, wedged into the ever-expanding roster of fighters is a particularly nasty character who has been around since the beginning. Kano, played by Josh Lawson in Simon McQuoid s
Mortal Kombat, is extraordinarily unbearable at times, and itâs only fitting that his character was dispatched in such a humiliating manner.
Just so we are clear, this article contains spoilers for Mortal Kombat. If youâve already seen the movie, or just donât care, feel free to read on.

Recently, I had a chance to talk to Josh Lawson, who plays the iconic Kano in Simon McQoidâs upcoming reboot, about tuning into the more hilarious aspects of the movie. According to Lawson, there was quite a bit of improvisation that went into his character s hilarious one-liners.
Ahead of
Mortal Kombatâs release, I asked the Kano actor about his character s snappy dialogue and if all of those witty one-liners were in the script. He had this to say:

If there was one aspect that defines the
Mortal Kombat franchise above all else, it would be the fatalities. The gruesome, over-the-top coup de grâceâs are a staple of the series and have been a beloved mechanic since the franchise kicked off in 1992. The ultra-violent deathblows are what set
Mortal Kombat apart from early fighting games and have only grown in brutality over the years. Fortunately for fans, the upcoming reboot has placed a heavy emphasis on fatalities this time around, and the cast recently revealed their favorites.
Ahead of
Mortal Kombatâs release, I had an opportunity to talk to some of the film s stars and find out whoâs fatality they liked best. When asked about his favorite fatality Ludi Lin, who plays franchise-favorite Liu Kang, tipped his hat to co-star Max Huang:
