The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association is suing the commonwealth and the Pennsylvania Office of Open Records, alleging that it should not be subject to the state’s Right to Know Law. The complaint, filed in Commonwealth Court on Friday, comes nearly 12 years after Pennsylvania’s Right to Know Law took effect and following what a PIAA attorney called a burdensome request. The PIAA has been considered a state-affiliated entity under the law since its inception, but it didn’t file a lawsuit over the designation until now.

If Franklin Regional officials had not made the move to remote instruction the week following Thanksgiving, nearly 60 people with either a positive covid-19 test or a potential exposure would have come back into the senior high school, according to the superintendent. “During those days, from Nov. 26 through Dec. 6, we had 58 individuals who were quarantined due to close contact or being positive,” Superintendent Jamie Piraino told school board members at a special meeting Thursday. The school directors voted to once again proactively move to remote instruction during the first school week of the new year, Jan. 4-8.

Going bankrupt during a pandemic is a double whammy for Franklin, Laconia hospitals Lakes Region General Hospital Published: 12/16/2020 6:16:10 PM Everybody has been having a hard time this year, but the hospitals in Franklin and Laconia are having two hard times at once. “Just going through a bankruptcy in and of itself is an extremely stressful process. Going through bankruptcy while we’re in the largest pandemic we’ve had in the last 100 years is quite another endeavor,” said Ken Donovan, CEO of LRGH Healthcare, which owns both hospitals. “It’s been a little nerve-wracking for everybody involved, to say the least, for the community, employees, the medical staff.”

Concord Hospital emerges as lone bidder for LRGH in bankruptcy

LACONIA — Concord Hospital is the sole health care institution interested in acquiring Lakes Region General Hospital, Franklin Regional Hospital and the hospitals’ ambulatory sites through Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, LRGHealthcare President and CEO Kevin Donovan said Tuesday. “While LRGHealthcare received significant interest from other parties, no other party submitted a bid by the deadline,” Donovan said. “We have always felt that Concord Hospital is a natural fit to ensure the continued provision of excellent care in the Lakes and Three Rivers Region, and we are excited about this step forward.” LRGHealthcare has filed a motion in federal bankruptcy court to cancel a bankruptcy auction set for Wednesday. Multiple bidders present offers at such an auction, but it will not be needed as Concord Hospital has emerged as the only bidder.
