Incidents of vigilante justice around Cape Town townships on the rise

Cape Town - Vigilante justice is rearing its ugly head again in different townships around Cape Town with several deaths blamed on kangaroo courts, which community leaders have blame for a loss of faith in the criminal justice system.
This week four people were killed during mob justice attacks in the city, among them an unidentified man whose body was discovered burnt beyond recognition and dumped inside the garden of a local primary school in Browns Farm, Philippi.
The case which has since been registered by police for further investigation mimics another incident that occurred in Ravensmead.

Two robbers helping themselves to the personal possessions of barber shop clients and staff in Nyanga, Cape Town, had their plans derailed.
Police patrolling along Amsterdam Street at Browns Farm on Saturday afternoon saw a group of people lying on their stomachs outside the barber shop while the pair were committing daylight robbery inside.
When one of the suspects saw the police van he made a run for it and managed to escape but his accomplice was arrested in possession of a firearm with the serial number filed off and ammunition.
Seven suspects are expected to appear in court today on charges of business robbery, illegal possession of firearms, ammunition, and stolen property as well as impersonating police officials.

Three gun-toting suspects were arrested after they allegedly fired their pistols and assaulted a motorist in Nyanga, Cape Town, on Thursday.
Police officers responding to information that a shooting had occurred in Sonwabile Drive in Crossroads, Nyanga, came across a white VW Polo.
Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk said after the officers stopped the vehicle, an injured and bleeding driver emerged.
He told them that he was assaulted by three men driving a white Toyota Corolla.
