People-watching at the airport isn t going to be the same this year, again. What’s fun to watch is the reaction of other travelers (to Burners). A couple of times, I’ve watched someone wearing a navy or black suit and they see someone coming back from the playa covered in dust, said Brian Kulpin, spokesman for the Reno Tahoe International Airport. You can see the anxiety in their eyes of, Oh man, I hope I’m not sitting next to that person.
Burning Man Project announced Tuesday that, for the second year in a row, it was not moving forward with this year s event in Northern Nevada, which had been set for Aug. 26 to Sept. 3. The festival is set to return in 2022.
No COVID baby boom in Nevada births down 7% | Reno Memo Reno-Gazette-Journal 4/28/2021
The COVID-19 baby boom didn t happen. Almost from the beginning of the pandemic, experts wondered if Americans would get bored with Netflix and breadmaking long enough to get pregnant, but an AP analysis of the early data says no, we actually stuck with Netflix and bread. Births for all of 2020 were down 4.3% from 2019, the data indicates. More tellingly, births in December 2020 and in January and February 2021 nine months or more after the spring 2020 lockdowns were down 6.5%, 9.3% and 10% respectively, compared with the same months a year earlier, writes the AP s Mike Stobbe.
Burning Man 2021 Is Cancelled
The Burning Man Project just announced “We have decided to set our sights on Black Rock City 2022,” which is another way of saying that they are canceling their 2021 event.
It’s been tough to read the tea leaves on whether the Burning Man event would schlep its art cars and flamethrowers out and do a Black Rock City for 2021. Last year’s event, like every other event, was cancelled (they prefer saying it was a “virtual playa”). In recent months this year, the Burning Man Project has given theme camps a “gentle nudge” to start gearing up to have the event in-person, and started publicly contemplating a vaccine requirement, but many large theme camps have been backing out over safety concerns.
