TRENTON The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for Mercer County and the surrounding area that will remain in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, and a Heat Advisory that will be in effect from 8 p.m. Tuesday until 8 p.m. Wednesday. County Executive Brian M. Hughes reminds residents that many cooling sites will be open.
Temperatures through Wednesday are expected to reach the middle to upper 90s with a heat index (a measure of the combination of heat and humidity) of up to 105 degrees on Tuesday and 102 degrees on Wednesday. Children, older adults, people with disabilities and pets are most at risk during excessive temperatures.

The LA Fitness Center, planned for the site of the former Huffman Koos furniture store at the Lawrence Shopping Center, will be opening at the shopping center – but just not yet.
The Lawrence Township Planning Board approved a four-month extension to Oct. 15 for final site plan approval for the fitness center, which was granted to Lawrence Shopping Center Associates LLC in September 2018.
The resolution, which was approved by the Lawrence Township Planning Board at its June 21 meeting, states that “the applicant has been unable to begin construction on the LA Fitness Center as a result of delays due to the declared state and local emergency arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Lidl Sets Opening Date in Lawrence Township
The new Lidl (pronounced like needle with an L) grocery store, in the Lawrence Shopping Center, will be opening its doors on Wednesday, June 9th..finally.
The new store is where the old Acme was. Lawrence residents are thrilled to see this project finished, as they ve been without a local grocery store for almost 3 years. I ve heard for about a year now that Lidl had signed a lease there, but, progress was slow, until the last few months, but, now, construction has picked up and has been moving along quickly.
I recently passed by the shopping center on Brunswick Pike and the Lidl shopping cart corals were being installed in the parking lot, all the shelving and refrigerator cases were in, the registers were in place, and more.
