Louisiana Save Our Screens Fund $4.5 million
This Main Street Recovery program will provide grants for movie theaters in Louisiana that were forced to close or reduce capacity due to COVID-19. The grants are limited to $10,000 for each movie screen with a limit of $50,000 for each theater.
Adam Holland, the Mayor of Oak Grove, spoke to the Finance Committee about the Fiske Theatre, a historical one-screen cinema his family operates.
“I want to make clear that I have no objections to the corporations that are going to receive aid from this bill,” said Holland. “It’s necessary to point out the fact that the way this bill is presently written, the corporations with stockholders will be receiving the vast majority of these funds.”

(Seguin) Annually, the Seguin Main Street Program presents its downtown awards during Moonlight & Roses and much like many events in 2020 and early 2021, Moonlight & Roses was canceled twice. Even though Seguin Main Street was unable to hold Moonlight & Roses, the Board still felt it important to recognize the businesses, individuals and organizations that had an impact on downtown Seguin over the last two years. To do so, Seguin Main Street will be presenting the 2019 and 2020 downtown awards during the June 13 Central Park Summer Concert.
“The Board of Seguin Main Street decided to combine two of the community’s favorite events – Moonlight & Roses and the Central Park Summer Concert Series,” said Kyle Kramm, Seguin Main Street & CVB Director, “So the June 13 concert will have some elements of Moonlight & Roses as well as some elements of the concert series.”
A pandemic pivot Winona is keeping (5/26/2021)
Even a bout of heavy rain did not dampen area residents’ enthusiasm about the first Friday evening of Dine Out Downtown this year. Part of Third Street was closed off from traffic and turned into an open air cafe. When the drops started to fall, event attendees simply dashed to the sides of local businesses with overhangs or braved the weather under the umbrellas at the tables along the road. The rain soon passed, and community members then cheered on musicians playing solos during a drum line performance. Attendees next returned to their discussions and food as other live music began. With that, the weekly event started its 2021 run last Friday.
Lots of flour, lots and lots of flour, makes anywhere from 12 to 16 pans of dough.
The dough is enough for a 10 1/2-foot wide ham biscuit â the worldâs largest. It takes a forklift truck to put this biscuit in the oven.
âWe cut it into squares,â noted Gary Rocca, one of the directors of Helping Hands, which every year makes the oversized biscuit for the annual Trigg County Country Ham Festival.
âWe slice it down the middle and put a piece of country ham in there,â Rocca continued of one of the highlights of the ham festival.
Absent for a year because of the coronavirus, the ham festival is returning in 2021, slated for Oct. 8-9 in downtown Cadiz, and the ham biscuit is returning with it.
