MIDDLETOWN Law enforcement officials, business owners and the city are brainstorming ways to curb an increase in panhandling, which they say has become more pressing because of lower levels of foot traffic on Main Street during the pandemic.
Police Capt. Rich Davis and Mayor Ben Florsheim said there have been instances in which an individual has become aggressive when asking for money from a passerby, causing distress for those who are preoccupied by filling parking meters or attending to other tasks.
The mayor said panhandling can be done in different ways, simply asking for money, or when people are more demanding in their appeal.
Urban Farmgirl Announces Main Street Market Dates For 2021
As we creep closer and closer to what normal life looks like, Urban Farmgirl announced their 2021 Mainstreet Market dates.
Via the Urban Farmgirl Instagram, they asked their fans to Save the Date for May 15 and September 11 at the Boone County Fairgrounds in Belvidere.
If you don t know what the Main Street Market is, according to urbanfarmgirl.com, it s an open-air market hosted by Urban Farmgirl – nestled on the grounds of Boone County Fairgrounds in Belvidere, IL. Shop over 150 vendors from across the Midwest – handmade artisans and purveyors of vintage goods – while enjoying amazing food & local music.
Just about every Saturday morning, shoppers flock to the Red Stick Farmers Market in downtown Baton Rouge carrying off bags of satsumas and collards, milk and cream.
But long before the customers show up at 8 a.m., the farmers and the staff of the Big River Economic and Agricultural Development Alliance, which runs the market, have been hard at work.
A good many of the more than 50 member farmers will have trucked in a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, meats and seafood, artisan breads, homemade pies, honey, milk and cheese, native plants, herbs and specialty food items.
Everything filling the bins and tables under the tents has been grown or produced locally. So, while you will find heirloom tomatoes and Creole cream cheese, you won t find bananas or mangoes.
