Brighton Beach will be closed to accommodate the latest phase of the Lakewalk restoration project. The Brighton Beach mini-master plan, adopted in 2019, will extend the Lakewalk, relocate Brighton Beach Road and restore the shoreline so it can better endure storms off Lake Superior. Currently, the Lakewalk empties onto Brighton Beach Road, causing vehicles and nonmotorized traffic to mix. The Lakewalk and Brighton Beach have weathered five severe storms since 2017. Makeshift repairs have occurred at the beach following those storms, but the mini-master plan would armor the area to withstand more from Lake Superior.
