Bid to close off laneway where pedestrian died in Newbridge

A councillor wants to close off a lane in Newbridge town centre close to where a woman recently lost her life.
Cllr Chris Pender called on the local authority to extinguish the right of way at Thomas Lane and Francis Lane on Lower Main Street.
A female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle near Thomas Lane in November and died from her injuries.
In an initial report, the Council said that extinguishing a public right of way would require going through due process including a public consultation.

The sale of the historic Ó Modhráin Hall in Newbridge is ‘imminent’ and councillors are insisting some of the proceeds must be used to build a much-needed facility for young people in the town.
Last week’s Kildare Newbridge Municipal District meeting agreed to draft and sign a letter to be sent to the Charities Regulator on the issue.
District manager Joe Boland told the meeting that he understood the sale of the derelict site on Cutlery Road could be finalised before Christmas or early in the New Year.
Call for safety measures at junction which has seen fatal accidents

A councillor has called on the Council to make safe Martinstown Cross near Ballysax under under the Low-Cost Accident Improvement Scheme.
Cllr Anne Connolly claimed there were two fatal accidents in the area in the past few years.
She also said that there had been near-misses at the location in recent months.
The politician asked that the issue be given serious consideration by the Council.
Cllr Fiona McLoughlin Healy also suggested that the Cross be examined as part of a review of speed limits in the municipal district.
