James “Jim” Loid Hamlin, age 85, of Brownwood passed away Thursday, March 4, 2021, at a local nursing facility after a lengthy illness.
Graveside Services for James will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 11, 2021, at Ector County Rose Hill Cemetery in Odessa with Military Honors.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 7th
, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home. Arrangements under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
James was born on July 20, 1935, to William and Ada (Ward) Hamlin in Sylvester, Texas. At age 19, James joined the Marines and served 9 years, receiving Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, United Nation Service Medal, and Korea Service Medal. After James served, he spent 2 ½ years ministering in Kairos prison and volunteered for 3 years at the West Texas State School in Pyote. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 4372 in Odessa, lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans TX State #12, and lifet

He would return four hours later. Not because he was slow, but because the gregarious extrovert socialized with literally everyone along the way. Known to all as “the Colonel”, he was a pillar of society in this seaside community of San Clemente, California.
