Rye High School returned to remote learning after COVID outbreak

Pueblo County School District 70 is expressing concerns about a recent rise in COVID-19 cases among students in the district. The increase in cases has led to exposures of students at nine of the 21 schools in the district. One of the major exposures was at Rye High School, where the school closed completely and returned to online learning due to a large number of students having to quarantine. We are concerned there is a lack of testing for variants in the community. There seems to be some extra steps needed in order to do that, said Todd Seip, public information officer at D70. This is something we are tracking.

Pueblo West, Pueblo County high schools to return to in-person learning

The Pueblo County School District 70 Board of Education voted Tuesday to allow Pueblo West and Pueblo County high schools resume in-person learning April 5. The decision comes as schools are gradually beginning to reopen as more people receive COVID-19 vaccines. Students will be allowed to remain in remote learning if they choose to. We are excited and elated for the opportunity to bring our kids back to in-person learning, said Chris James, principal at Pueblo West High School. It s been a tough time trying to do the hybrid (format) for many kids. The board voted 4-0 to allow the schools to go back four days a week after remaining in the hybrid format since Jan. 18. Other schools in the district returned to full in-person learning at that time.

A look at Pueblo s newest charter school where students have a more interactive learning setting

Education in Pueblo has changed dramatically over the last couple years with new charter and online schools popping up around the city. The new schools are part of the local public school districts and offer new opportunities for students to get a different style education. One of those schools is Villa Bella Expeditionary School, located next to CSU Pueblo. Started in 2019, the school is currently available to students in grades K-4, but has plans to expand in the near future. Next year we ll expand to K-5. Recently, District 70 has authorized us to add grades sixth, seventh and eighth, said Logan Gogarty, executive director and founder of Villa Bella. The idea would be to build another building and then have our fifth graders move up into that sixth grade track.
