So I asked why wasn’t this being made at home? Why wasn’t his company doing the R&D and developing things in-house? The answer, of course, was from his perspective it is cheaper to let others do the research and development and then to simply buy the final product. After the talk, I had several people try to explain to me why this was a better approach. After all, they said, R&D costs money. But just because someone else is doing the research and development doesn’t mean you aren’t paying for it! The price of all the R&D is included in the cost of the product, along with a measure of profit. And, in this particular case, the company had to adapt its purchases to the conditions under which they would be operating, requiring further costs. I just thought it would have been cheaper to do the whole thing themselves!

Palm Beach County won t conduct Point-In-Time homeless count December 31, 2020 at 4:30 PM EST - Updated December 31 at 6:35 PM
The pandemic has changed how many of us operate even the war on homelessness.
Out of safety due to COVID-19, Palm Beach County won t be conducting a Point-In-Time homeless count during January.
The count is used to identify the number of homeless people and serves as a qualifier for state funds that are used for housing and other services. The county said the funds will not be impacted by skipping the Point-In-Time count this year.
Still, officials are reminding property owners of their importance to end homelessness.
Anyone arriving in Canada starting Jan. 7 will need to have a negative COVID-19 test before boarding a flight, the federal government said Thursday as the Liberals urged vacationers abroad to prepare.
Flyers aged five and up will need have a negative PCR test within 72 hours of their scheduled departure and must show the results to their airline before they board their flight.
Travellers who receive a negative test result must still complete the mandatory 14-day quarantine upon their arrival in Canada.
Either before or upon arrival, travellers will have to provide a quarantine plan for federal officials to review. If officials aren t satisfied, the government said people will be required to quarantine in a federal facility.
