MOCA restructuring: Klaus Biesenbach becomes artistic director

Print Museum of Contemporary Art Director Klaus Biesenbach will take on a new role as artistic director, the museum announced Thursday, in a restructuring that will bring on a yet-to-be-named executive director. Together, MOCA said, Biesenbach and the executive director will join at the helm to oversee all aspects of the museum. Both will report to the MOCA board. An email announcing the restructuring went out to MOCA staffers Thursday. Biesenbach will focus on programming, collections and exhibitions, international and digital outreach as well as fundraising and development, the letter stated. He also will work toward “increasing the museum’s cultural visibility and artist relations, while at the same time growing the museum’s international profile and partnerships.”

Three walking routes in England for the aspiring pilgrim

© Getty Images/iStockphoto The ancient route from Great Malvern Priory to Worcester Cathedral From the awe-inspiring stained-glass windows of the Great Malvern Priory to the booming hall of Worcester Cathedral, this journey along the River Severn should inspire any modern-day pilgrim. “I feel the ghosts of the distant past stirring in my pilgrim bones,” says Pamela Goodman in the Financial Times, recalling her own trip between the holy sites. Trekking between the chapels, through the idyllic apple orchards and fields of Worcestershire, can itself be a form of tranquil meditation upon the journeys of pilgrims past, and would make a perfect getaway after a long lockdown.

Kunsthaus Zurich counts down to 'quantum leap' for Swiss art scene after Chipperfield expansion

The Kunsthaus Zurich s new building is designed by David Chipperfield Architects Photo: © Noshe The Kunsthaus Zurich has announced the completion of a major extension that will make it the biggest art museum in Switzerland, a step the city hopes will help to put it on an equal footing with Basel as a destination for art lovers. The museum is doubling its footprint with David Chipperfield’s new building on Heimplatz, which was formally completed on 11 December. Due to a tightening of coronavirus restrictions, a planned open-house weekend on 12-13 December has been cancelled. Linked by an underground passage to the original 1910 building across the square, the extension will show temporary exhibitions, art since the 1960s and the Bührle collection a long-term loan of 200 works, including paintings by Claude Monet, Paul Cézanne, Edgar Degas, Paul Gauguin and Vincent Van Gogh. Their addition will give the Kunsthaus the biggest collection of French Impressioni
