Walmart unveils new product return service Walmart Inc said on Monday it had launched a service through which customers can schedule a return for a product bought online, in-store or from a third-party vendor. The service, called Carrier Pickup by FedEx, can be initiated either on the Walmart app or website, the U.S. retailer said. Customers can choose to return a product by selecting the pickup option from home or they can drop it off at a FedEx Corp office. Bestway extends Co-op agreement for Costcutter retailers Print 22nd December 2020 Costcutter retailers will continue to be supplied by the Co-op for a further five years after new owner Bestway Wholesale this morning unveiled a two-and-a-half year extension to their existing deal. The wholesaler hopes the extension will come as welcome news to Costcutter retailers, giving them added reassurance that Bestway is committed to ensuring all the benefits they currently enjoy will remain unchanged. Under the terms of the existing CSG supply contract with the Co-op and delivered wholesaler Nisa, Nisa will continue to supply CSG stores. This includes supplying the 2,000-SKU Co-op own-brand range, as well as fresh produce.

The deal, set to be concluded in the first quarter of 2021 subject to approval from the Financial Conduct Authority, will take the wholesaler’s turnover to almost £3bn. Bestway will then operate a symbol, franchise and company store estate of more than 3,795 UK stores. The Costcutter operations will become part of Bestway’s retail arm. This will involve the integration of around 1,500 stores branded Costcutter, Mace, Supershop, Kwiksave and Simply Fresh, along with 20 Costcutter and four Co-op franchises.

Wholesaler Bestway has bought Costcutter from Bibby Line for an undisclosed sum in a significant move in independent retail.  Under the deal Costcutter will become part of Bestway Wholesale’s retail division and operate as normal.  “The acquisition of CSG by Bestway Wholesale enables us to further build on our solid foundations in Independent Retail, allowing us to expand on our already established, and highly respected, fascias and national network of stores,” Bestway’s managing director Dawood Pervez said.

Bestway said the acquisition, which will complete on approval from the Financial Conduct Authority, follows the improvement in CSG’s financial performance over the last two years. During the 12 months to 31 December 2019, CSG’s sales rose by 10% to £426m, it said, with sales and profitability continuing to rise throughout 2020 as consumers increasingly shopped locally as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. The acquisition takes Bestway Wholesale’s annual turnover to almost £3bn, alongside a symbol, franchise and company-owned store retail estate of more than 3,795 stores in the UK, including 2,682 fascia and 195 company-owned.
