Climate Change Weekly #387
President Joe Biden has made fighting climate change the cornerstone of his administration’s domestic and international policy initiatives. This fact is already creating a huge China problem for Biden and the United States.
John Kerry is Biden’s handpicked climate envoy, responsible for negotiating international agreements to accelerate greenhouse gas emission reductions to fight climate change. An article in
Vox notes that the U.S. relationship with China will be all about climate change under the Biden administration:
In December, US foreign policy expert Thomas Wright wrote an article in the Atlantic with a provocative claim: That Kerry would prioritize extracting climate change-related concessions from China, and to do so would minimize America’s plans to push Beijing on trade, security, and human rights issues:

In an unprecedented flurry of authoritarian activity for a new president, the Hologram has signed 43 executive orders in his first dozen days in office. This from someone who as a candidate claimed that “Trump was a dictator” in signing various executive orders, as noted here:
“I’ve got to get the votes,” said then-candidate Biden.
“I have this strange notion, we are a democracy … if you can’t get the votes … you can’t [legislate] by executive order unless you’re a dictator. We’re a democracy. We need consensus,” said Biden.
Yet, it is abundantly clear that Biden is essentially ruling by diktat in reversing dozens of Trump policies – from canceling the Keystone XL Pipeline to enabling “transgenders” in the armed forces to opening the border (and ceasing construction of the wall) to rejoining the Paris Climate Accords. Others being contemplated could involve curbing Second Amendment rights, a return to the Obama-era
Biden’s Executive Orders on Leasing Federal Lands for Oil and Gas Production
Allison Edwards
As part of a broader effort to address climate change, President Biden issued two executive orders (EOs) that call for the review of existing leasing practices for federal lands and temporarily prevent new oil and gas leases on federal lands and in offshore waters. In a new insight, AAF’s Director of Energy Policy Ewelina Czapla provides an overview of the EOs and notes that it is not clear if or when lease sales will resume.
An excerpt:
By calling for various review processes, President Biden’s EOs create uncertainty around the future of federal leasing for oil and gas production. Only when the Department of the Interior’s reviews are completed will there be some clarity on where lease activity may continue and what royalties may look like.
