Once known as Bowcott and the New World, Calgary trio ROOKS had a few good reasons for changing its name before releasing last month’s The High Road.
For one, too many people were referring to the guitar-rock band as Bowcott and the New World Order, which seemed a bit weighty and conspiratorial even in the wake of society’s recent disorder due to COVID-19. Vocalist and guitarist Jay Bowcott acknowledges that it was “weirding them out.”
