New York State Police said the suspect, identified as Jason D. Johnson, 34, no address given, was spotted around 4:30 p.m. Thursday and taken into custody near a river bank off state Route 79.
Johnson is accused of shooting Trooper Becky Seager, a seven-year veteran of the New York State Police assigned to the Binghamton barracks.
The incident developed shortly after 8:30 p.m. Wednesday when representatives from the state police and Broome County Sheriff s Office responded to 1348 E. Windsor Road in the Town of Colesville to check on the welfare of a person, state police said.
Responding officers reportedly found a man with a long gun who disappeared into the woods. Gunshots were fired in the woods a short time later.
The Republican says he has appointed Charles Woody Jr. as Director of Community Outreach and Recruitment.

The $65,000 a year full-time job is a new position created to help diversify the police force.
In a news release from the Mayor s Office, the job is described as a position to enhance community connections and recruitment efforts to increase the number of individuals taking the annual civil service police officer exam, with a focus on reaching underrepresented demographics in policing personnel.

1 stabbed at Metro Plaza Apartments in Binghamton
BINGHAMTON (WBNG) The Binghamton Police Department said one person was stabbed Thursday at the Metro Plaza Apartments at 110 Chenango Pl.
Binghamton Police said the victim was stabbed in their torso and has non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said they believe the victim and suspect are known to each other.
No arrests have yet been made.
