New York State Police said the suspect, identified as Jason D. Johnson, 34, no address given, was spotted around 4:30 p.m. Thursday and taken into custody near a river bank off state Route 79.
Johnson is accused of shooting Trooper Becky Seager, a seven-year veteran of the New York State Police assigned to the Binghamton barracks.
The incident developed shortly after 8:30 p.m. Wednesday when representatives from the state police and Broome County Sheriff s Office responded to 1348 E. Windsor Road in the Town of Colesville to check on the welfare of a person, state police said.
Responding officers reportedly found a man with a long gun who disappeared into the woods. Gunshots were fired in the woods a short time later.

Jason D. Johnson, 34, of Colesville, was arraigned Friday morning at Broome County Central Arraignment Court on two counts of first-degree attempted murder, a felony.
Other charges are pending, according to New York State Police.
Johnson allegedly shot and wounded state Trooper Becky Seager during a confrontation Wednesday night near an address on East Windsor Road in the Town of Colesville.
Seager suffered a gunshot wound to the hip during an exchange of gunfire and was treated at UHS Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City. She was released late Thursday afternoon.
