Cinemas welcoming back audiences
At least 4,761 moviegoers went to the cinema on 19 April, the day cinemas reopened, a source from the Cinema and Audiovisual Institute (ICA) told Lusa news agency.
According to the ICA, which gathers regular statistics on cinema exhibition in the country, exhibitors reported about 27,000 Euros in box office revenue on Monday, 19 April, but not all the cinemas reopened their doors.
Of the 561 cinemas in the country, and ICA indicates that on reopening, it obtained box office data from 333 cinemas, including independents and multiplexes, located mainly in shopping centres.
Following the deconfinement plan, on Monday theatres, cinemas and performance halls reopened in most of the country, except in the municipalities of Moura, Odemira, Portimão, Rio Maior, Alandroal, Albufeira, Carregal do Sal, Figueira da Foz, Marinha Grande and Penela, where the Covid-19 pandemic risk situation is higher.

The Municipal Council of Figueira da Foz, in the district of Coimbra, has destroyed 219 nests of Asian wasp in 2020 and, in these first four months of 2021, has already eliminated 23 others
The Municipal Civil Protection Service of Figueira da Foz (SMPCFF) was also called to intervene in the municipalities of Coimbra, Góis, Condeixa and Montemor.
In 2021, the intervention to combat the Asian wasp focused on the parishes of Alhadas, Bom Sucesso, Buarcos and São Julião, Ferreira-a-Nova, Lavos, Maiorca, Marinha das Ondas, Paião, Tavarede and Vila Verde, according to a press release.
