Pickens County, Ga Tuesday, March 16th was a windy, rainy filled day but it also was game day as the Pickens Dragons (7-5, 1-3) welcomed the Northwest Whitfield Bruins to Dunn Field for game 1 of a 7-AAAA three game set. The Dragons, were coming off of a tough series with Centrall-Carroll last week and looked to get back on track against a Bruins ream that was out of region play last week, and came in with a 10-2 overall record. In a back and forth game that saw both teams trade the lead, Northwest Whitfield came away with a 3-2 win in 8 innings.
Pickens County, Ga It was such a great day for baseball, the Pickens Dragons (7-3, 1-1) and the Central-Carroll Lions (6-3, 1-1) decided to play two as games two and three of their region 7-AAAA series took place in Jasper on Friday, March 12th. Game 1 of the series saw the Lions win a tight back and forth game at their place on Tuesday, March 9th. If it was any indication, this series was gonna be close. Powered by 16 runs in the first three innings, the Dragons were able to hang on late to take game 2, 16-13.
In the top of the 1st, the Lions struck first as they held an early lead, 1-0. In the bottom of the inning, the Dragons bats were lively early. Pickens, scored 8 runs on 6 hits as Jarod Whitmore, Trace Ledbetter, Connor Shouse, & Anthony Antinozzi, all picked up an RBI. James Tilley drove in 2 with a 2 RBI double to make it 8-1 Dragons going to the 2nd inning.
