“They were absolutely exceptional with the work that they did putting the fires out. They took care of seven fires I would say within 20 minutes, saving a bunch of residences in the area. We’re so thankful to have them and their quick response,” Sergeant Joshua Roda of the Merritt RCMP told Radio NL. Merritt, which is located in a semi-arid desert, is naturally dry, but with the current drought conditions plaguing much of the province, even the smallest of sparks coming from an old rust bucket has the ability to cause serious damage.  The event should come as a warning to any drivers of old vehicles (particularly ones that have not been maintained and are throwing sparks — we’re looking at you, driver of that black Ford F-150) to be hyper aware of their vehicle’s condition.
