Baylor Scott & White providing free training for families taking care of a loved one with dementia Tori Larned © Provided by KVUE-TV Austin As people across the U.S. maneuver through their second year of new routines and a new way of living life due to the pandemic, many more people are taking on the responsibility of caring for their loved ones, especially those with dementia. To help support these families, Baylor Scott & White Health (BSW) is offering free virtual programs through its Research Institute to help families across Texas improve their support for loved ones with dementia.  Through the Baylor Scott and White Online Caregiver Study, researchers are using these programs to develop and test different ways of supporting dementia caregivers. 

Officials: Bastrop first responders injured suspected drunk driver

A suspected drunk driver hit and injured a pair of Bastrop first responders while they investigated a crash Thursday evening on Texas 71, according to the city of Bastrop. Assistant Fire Chief Eric DeArmitt sustained a “serious bodily injury which will require ongoing care,” and police Sgt. Charles Sanford sustained a minor injury while investigating the crash at about 6 p.m. Thursday in the 600 block of West Texas 71, the city said in an announcement late Friday. While DeArmitt and Sanford investigated the inital crash, another motorist, identified as 53-year-old Kenneth Crawford of Bastrop County, abruptly entered the crash scene driving a 2020 Jeep Cherokee Latitude, officials said.
