TWO people who were in the water off the coast of North Berwick after their dinghy capsized were rescued by the coastguard, with a rescue helicopter also called. At about 1.55pm yesterday afternoon (Wednesday), two people ended up in the water between the Bass Rock and Cardinal Point. They were sailing in their dinghy when it capsized while they were returning to the town. After multiple attempts to recover themselves failed, they then called 999 for help. North Berwick and Dunbar coastguard teams were called to the scene, as was the coastguard rescue helicopter and North Berwick’s RNLI lifeboat crew.
A COMPREHENSIVE guide to everything East Lothian has been published – just months after the author’s sad death. Malcolm Fife (pictured below) had been working on East Lothian: Exploring a County but passed away earlier this year. The book (pictured below), which covers everything from the Bass Rock to picturesque harbours and from Scotland’s earliest railway to fine country houses, was published earlier this month. Mr Fife, 66, who read geography at the University of Edinburgh, was a renowned author on Scottish history with a number of acclaimed books, many focusing on Edinburgh. He died in January this year, following a short illness, just as the book was being prepared for the printer.
