Top Story May 9, 2021 ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain Saturday said in categorical terms that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, led by Prime Minister Imran Khan, had full faith in the fundamental, democratic and constitutional right to freedom of expression, but insisted that protection of the state interests was top priority for all. He was talking to office-bearers of the Karachi, Lahore and National Press Club Islamabad during a virtual meeting here. Others who attended the meeting were Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib, President National Press Club Islamabad Shakeel Anjum, Secretary Anwar Raza, presidents of Lahore and Karachi Press Clubs Arshad Ansari and Fazil Jamili, Principal Information Officer Sohail Ali Khan, Karachi. Relevant directors general of Lahore PID regional offices also attended the event.

Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Friday, May 14 according to the calendar and the Ruet app, said the   Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry on Sunday. The minister, however, in a tweet also clarified that the final decision in this regard will be announced by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. According to the calendar and the moon sighting app,  the moon will appear on May 13 and Eid will be on May 14,   the information minister added. The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet on the 29th of Ramadan, May 12, to sight the Eid-ul-Fitr moon.

Photo: PID The inclusion and exclusion of someone’s name on the blacklist is the prerogative of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director-general, said  Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry on Saturday. In a tweet, the federal minister said the legal counsel of PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif had given no application to the FIA DG for removal of his name from the list. The minister maintained that the record could not be changed by verbal statements.  He said that the government will file an appeal in the court of law against this decision.

The minister appreciated Huawei’s contribution to the development of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry in Pakistan. He said the government’s plan for a paperless working environment is being pursued vigorously. Emphasising the need to follow e-governance, he said all-out efforts would be made for provision of broadband and internet services aiming at a broader outreach, both for the general public and the government.

Top Story May 5, 2021 ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry Tuesday endorsed the statement of Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Shahzad Akbar that if the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was supposed to introduce electoral reforms, then the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) should be allowed to amend the accountability laws. In a tweet, he said if parliament had no role in reformation, the national institutions should be allowed to do whatever they like as in the opinion of Shahbaz Sharif and Bilawal Bhutto, the parliament had nothing to do with the process of reformation of national institutions.
