A YANGQIN (Chinese hammered dulcimer) musician and his two students, all of whom are from Malaysia, made the country proud after bagging several international awards recently, reported China Press.
Renowned local yangqin teacher Zhong Tian Xiang won gold recently in the professional division of the 5th Quebec Online Music Competition in May this year.
His students Guan Bing Bin and Hu Wei En won silver in the traditional instrument division of the 13th European Championship.
Guan and Hu, both of whom had entered the music competition for the first time, were also presented with the “Contribution towards the Preservation and Promotion of Traditional Arts” award.
AN 82-year-old musician was found to have hoarded rubbish of almost a metre high at his home in Seremban, China Press reported.
Volunteer workers from the Persatuan Kebajikan Sayangi Malaysia (PKSM) found the pile of trash believed to have been accumulated by Yan Nan Xiu over 20 years.
One of the volunteers, Li Tian Sheng, said they often brought food for the elderly man but none of them had ever gone into the house until last week when the latter was injured after falling off his motorcycle.
“I was shocked to find his home filled with rubbish to the point it was so hard to open the front door,” Li said.
