A group called Game Over for Merkur is battling a decision by Enfield Council to allow Cashino to open a Merkur Slots gaming centre in 292 Green Lanes, Palmers Green. There are already four betting shops in the area – and campaigners say residents were not aware of the plans for the latest gambling venue due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Today is the 50th anniversary of the death of Stevie Smith. She was 68, and had been suffering from a brain tumour.
