APACHE JUNCTION, AZ â A local bookstore is closing its doors but giving away thousands of books in the process.
Mary Annâs Mostly Books is filled with history - not just within the books but the store itself. I went around all the garage sales and things like that. When I first started the bookstore, it killed me to sell a book because it was my book but, I got over that,â says owner Mary Ann Steele.

APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. It was the shop that Apache Junction never got to enjoy.
Mary Ann’s Mostly Books announced the used bookstore would close for good on Saturday. In the two years at that location, the shop never had the chance to open for business.
Mary Ann Steele is an avid reader - so much so, she and her husband opened their first bookstore in Benson 20 years ago. The store was a success, which is no wonder when her son describes the home he grew up in.
Rae MacKenzie takes on a new role.
The veteran Stornoway South councillor was chosen by members of the committee in a close-run contest with Benbecula and North Uist councillor, Iain M Macleod, who was elected to the Comhairle in 2017.
The vacancy arose after the then vice-chair of the committee, Barra, Vatersay, Eriskay and South Uist councillor, Paul Steele, was elected chair of the authority’s Education, Sport and Children’s Services Committee in January 2021.
Under the Comhairle’s standing orders Cllr Steele then had to resign any other committee positions he had held.
Cllr Rae MacKenzie is the longest serving councillor in the authority’s history, having been elected nine times.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to place unprecedented strain on health services, social welfare, and economic activity, as well as mounting fiscal pressure that continues to drive up sovereign debt levels for many countries. At the same time, attention is being diverted from critically underfunded biodiversity and climate crises.
