PORT CLINTON - There aren’t any good jobs in war. But whether a soldier is battling on the frontline or working support behind a desk, all the jobs boil down to one mission: protecting America’s freedom. Between 1964 and 1967, Gloria Simon, a 2nd class personnelman in the Navy, served in one of the most agonizing stateside positions a soldier could hold: she processed paperwork which sent young men into the Vietnam War.
Simon still carries the burden of those days. Memories still bring pain, and pain still brings tears. Although she was simply processing orders decided by someone else, she felt a responsibility not her own.

Hard-working charity fundraisers at Honiton and District Lions Club have issued an appeal for new members to bolster their ranks and help them support more community projects.
Brian Richards, club president, said that because of the pandemic the club’s fundraising had come to a halt but they were planning their popular classic car show on July 31 at the Honiton Market Charter Day at Allhallows field in Honiton.
Honiton and District Lions Club was formed in May 1977 with 20 members from all walks of life. Their sponsorship was from Axminster Lions Club, with the late Lion Cliff Walton being their guiding Lion.
