Sony’s plan to start putting money toward video game adaptations through the dedicated PlayStation Productions studio it launched a few years ago is working out surprisingly well, at least in the sense that the
Uncharted movie really seems to be happening and won’t be stuck in development hell forever, and now another big-name PlayStation brand is getting some attention. According to
Variety, Sony and PlayStation Productions are putting together a live-action TV adaptation of
Twisted Metal, the beloved video game series about a clown killing people with an ice cream truck (and also one of the people he’s killing is a guy standing in between two giant wheels).
The idea for a
(Deadpool,
) have teamed up with Michael Jonathan Smith (

According to Variety, which broke the news, the story follows “a motor-mouthed outsider who is offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown.who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck, whom fans of the game will know as Sweet Tooth.” Will Arnett’s Electric Avenue production company is also on board.

Filmmaking duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have been tapped for Sony s Twisted Metal TV series.

Twisted Metal TV show is officially happening. The studio has tapped filmmaking duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, known best as the writers of
Deadpool and
Zombieland, to spearhead the adaptation of the popular video game franchise. It has first been revealed in 2019 that the studio hoped to bring the game to the small screen. Now, the project has just gained some serious steam.
Back in May 2019 Sony announced PlayStation Productions, a new arm of the company that would create television shows and films based on PlayStation IPs, and at the same time it was confirmed by Tony V
Sweet Tooth is coming to life, thanks to a live-action adaptation of Twisted Metal that is officially in the works.
As reported by Variety, the car-combat video game series is getting a live-action TV series in a joint production between Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions.
The series will be an action comedy written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers behind Zombieland and the Deadpool films. We are thrilled to have such a great team working on bringing this iconic game to life for the fans, Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, told Variety.
Michael Jonathan Smith, who wrote and produced the Cobra Kai series, will write and executive produce on Twisted Metal.
