Last night Gotham FC cemented themselves as the team to beat in the Eastern Division of the Challenge Cup, taking down the North Carolina Courage 4-3 in their home opener at Montclair Soccer Park.
Needless to say goals were not scarce in the clubs’ first game (officially) in front of fans - shoutout to anyone who’s watched a game at Montclair from the parking garage - in over a year. After a relatively slow start, the match exploded open in the 17th minute when star Gotham forward Midge Purce picked up the ball in her own half and charged all the way to the North Carolina net, slotting the ball past keeper Casey Murphy after leaving two would-be defenders for dead.

The 2021 NWSL season kicks off Friday night with the second iteration of the Challenge Cup, the tournament which was created after the league became the first professional sports league to come back in America after COVID-19 first hit the country.

Good morning! I’m having a weird one as I write this, as the vaccine aftereffects are manifesting a little oddly. I almost fell asleep very early by my standards, and then when I went to brush my teeth, I managed to reinvigorate myself to some extent, which is why I’m writing this last night rather than early this morning. FRIDAY, JANUARY 22
At 10:30 a.m., Julian Moore was dispatched to the 1000 block of Briarcrest Drive in New Ulm in reference to animal cruelty (livestock). After further investigation, the animals were seized with a warrant and examined by a veterinarian. The case will be forwarded to the Colorado COunty Attorney’s Office for criminal charges.
At 11:42 a.m., Holly Smith was dispatched to the Columbus Community Hospital in reference to an assault. It determined a report would be taken for information only. Case cleared.
At 4 p.m., Julian Moore initiated a traffic stop on Walnut at Prairie in Columbus. After further investigation, Debra Hibbard, 50 of Yoakum, was arrested for a warrant out of Dewitt County. Case cleared by arrest.

Ricky Gervais is among the famous faces who will be asking questions during an online quiz this weekend to raise awareness for suicide prevention.
The event has been organised by Ross Owen, a supporter of Airdrieonians Football Club, who previously had Gervais sign one of the teamâs strips for charity.
As well as the After Life creator, questions for the Facebook Live event have been recorded by Bake Off host Matt Lucas, actor Stephen Graham, Shaun Williamson of EastEnders fame, and Still Game stars Greg Hemphill and Paul Riley.
