In a deep-winter state like Maine, deer-wintering areas, or yards, are a critical component of deer survival. In fact, according to recent legislative testimony from the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine (SAM), our deer yards have declined from 12% of the forest to just 3%. We have not done a very good job of identifying major deer-wintering areas and protecting them from the logger’s axe.

Report calls for action after holiday park restraint led to father s death A FATHER-of-three who died after he was “unlawfully” restrained by the neck lost his life because of a lack of training and a failure to take steps to save him, a report has found. Paul Reynolds, 38, was held in a prone position for around 11 minutes with a knee to his back after an initial neck hold, an inquest at Suffolk Coroner’s Court recorded. Jurors, who listened to evidence during a three-week hearing, found that the restraint methods were not “appropriate or proportionate” and that Mr Reynolds had not been physically violent.
Variant, showcasing previous and new works by artists Al Denyer, Jorge Rojas and Paul Reynolds.
âWe wanted to do a show this spring that honored the changes we have all faced,â says Shalee Cooper, Gallery Director of Modern West.
Variant is an ode to the past year when control was so often lost in our daily lives. The exhibition displays works with similar underlying themes, and each of the artistsâ pieces vary slightly from the last. Denyer, Rojas and Reynolds explore time and growth while simultaneously pushing the boundaries of their own artistic identity.
âItâs really fascinating. Their processes are so unique, but thereâs a meditative approach to each of their work,â Cooper says. âWhen you come into the gallery, you really want to sit with each of their work individually.â
