(tap, tap, tap.) Ahem. Is this thing on? Is it still working? I don’t remember how to turn it on anymore. We’re really going to do this thing, huh? OK. Let’s go. I’ll give it my best shot.
On September 14, 2019, the South Bend Cubs beat the Clinton LumberKings 5-0 to sweep the best-of-five series three games to none and claim the Midwest League title. Five hundred and eighty-eight days later, on Tuesday, May 4, there will be Cubs teams playing minor league baseball again.

Cesar Valdez’s name has graced this column a handful of times over the past year, most recently a month ago when I asked him about his powerful paralyzing perfect pachydermous percussion pitch. (No, the Baltimore Orioles reliever doesn’t actually call it that, but given that Bugs Bunny changeups make up the lion’s share of his deliveries, he arguably should). In 1997, Major League Baseball honored Jackie Robinson by making his No. 42 the first uniform number to be retired across the sport.

Blue Jays: Xavier Hernandez (1989)
Hernandez, a right-handed relief pitcher, made his debut with the Blue Jays in 1989 and appeared in seven games, covering 22 2/3 innings that season before the Astros selected him in the Rule 5 Draft. Toronto had drafted Hernandez in the fourth round in 86 and he developed as a starter, but came out of the bullpen for the majority of his 10-year Major League career.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Legal Newsline) - The Union Pacific Railroad is facing a wrongful death and negligence suit in Arkansas regarding the death of former employee Robert Bennett by squamous cell carcinoma, which was allegedly caused by exposure to asbestos and other substances during his employment.
The suit was filed March 1 by attorney Paul Byrd on behalf of Mike Bennett, administrator of Robert Bennett’s estate, in Pulaski County Circuit Court.
Robert Bennett is alleged in the suit to have worked for Union Pacific from 1957 to 1961, and during that time to have been exposed to a variety of toxic substances, including asbestos, as a part of the work he did for the railroad.
