Cubs minor leagues: Get to know the Myrtle Beach Pelicans

Cubs minor leagues: Get to know the Myrtle Beach Pelicans Share this story Larry Kave/Myrtle Beach Pelicans (tap, tap, tap.) Ahem. Is this thing on? Is it still working? I don’t remember how to turn it on anymore. We’re really going to do this thing, huh? OK. Let’s go. I’ll give it my best shot. On September 14, 2019, the South Bend Cubs beat the Clinton LumberKings 5-0 to sweep the best-of-five series three games to none and claim the Midwest League title. Sunday Notes: Cesar Valdez s Powerful Paralyzing Perfect Pachydermous Percussion Pitch

April 18, 2021 Cesar Valdez’s name has graced this column a handful of times over the past year, most recently a month ago when I asked him about his powerful paralyzing perfect pachydermous percussion pitch. (No, the Baltimore Orioles reliever doesn’t actually call it that, but given that Bugs Bunny changeups make up the lion’s share of his deliveries, he arguably should). Since the start of last season, Valdez has thrown the mesmerizing offering an eye-popping 83.1% of the time. The Red Sox have faced the 36-year-old slow-baller on three occasions so far in April, so I asked Boston hitting coach Tim Hyers what kind of advice he gives his charges when Valdez is on the bump.

Last player to wear No 42 for each MLB team

share-square-1718710 In 1997, Major League Baseball honored Jackie Robinson by making his No. 42 the first uniform number to be retired across the sport. That said, players who were wearing No. 42 at the time were grandfathered in, meaning they could choose to continue wearing it until they retired. Thus, some teams have had a player wear No. 42 more recently than others and some have never handed out that uniform to anyone. Here s a look at the last player to wear No. 42 for each MLB team: American League East Blue Jays: Xavier Hernandez (1989) Hernandez, a right-handed relief pitcher, made his debut with the Blue Jays in 1989 and appeared in seven games, covering 22 2/3 innings that season before the Astros selected him in the Rule 5 Draft. Toronto had drafted Hernandez in the fourth round in 86 and he developed as a starter, but came out of the bullpen for the majority of his 10-year Major League career.

The suit was filed March 1 by attorney Paul Byrd on behalf of Mike Bennett, administrator of Robert Bennett’s estate, in Pulaski County Circuit Court.
