Over 4,200 people have signed up to receive Nevada County-specific text message updates on the COVID-19 vaccine rollout as of Monday, according to Connecting Point Executive Director Ann Guerra.
The text message alert system, a partnership between Nevada County Public Health and 211 Connecting Point, was announced Friday. Anyone can subscribe to the alerts by texting VACCINEINFO to 898211.
“It seemed like a good thing to employ in this situation … where there isn’t just one piece of news. There are updates,” said Guerra. “To be able to push the information out to them so that they don’t have to keep seeking it out themselves is reassuring to people.”

Superior Court Judge Hayden Zacky ruled that it was “not in the interest of justice to dismiss the special circumstance allegations of murder of a peace officer in the performance of his duties and murder to avoid or prevent a lawful arrest, along with gun allegations, against Kenneth Earl Gay, now 63, in connection with the June 2, 1983, slaying of Officer Paul Verna.

KITCHENER As people prepare to leave 2020 behind, officials in Waterloo Region are encouraging people to stay home to ring in the new year. Medical Officer of Health Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang joined other provincial officials telling people not to gather outside of their household during the holiday season. Cambridge officials have cancelled all in-person activities. The City of Kitchener will livestream an event and has asked residents to leave up their Christmas lights until the provincial lockdown is lifted at the end of January.
