Officials in Halmstad municipality, Sweden, recently forced a teacher to remove their mask and prohibited the use of masks and all forms of PPE in schools. The municipality said there was no scientific evidence for wearing masks, citing the Swedish public health agency. At the time, agency guidance stated that there were “great risks” that masks would be used incorrectly. This guidance has since been removed.
To someone unfamiliar with the Swedish response to COVID-19, this mask ban might sound shocking. After all, while masks are not foolproof, there is evidence that indicates that they do help reduce the spread of COVID-19, especially in situations where maintaining distance is impossible – such as schools.

Molly Ashe Cawley flew to the top of the podium aboard Berdien, a mare who endured a serious illness last year, in the $37,000 CaptiveOne Advisors 1.50m Jumper Classic on Friday, January 15, at the 2021 Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF), held at Palm Beach International Equestrian Center (PBIEC).
Cawley has had Berdien since she was a six-year-old and brought her over from Europe shortly after that. The pair have experienced success from day one, but the mare was forced to sit out last year’s WEF after coming down with an illness while shipping south for the winter. Friday’s win was just one of many positive steps during her recovery and return to the show ring.
Newman Catholic College pupils kick off Syrian refugee fundraiser with Christmas jumper day

A Harlesden school s two-year fundraising drive to help displaced Syrian refugees got off to a flying start with a Christmas jumper day.
The day of festive fun in December at Newman Catholic College (NCC), in Harlesden Road, helped to raise £440 for an afterschool education programme based in Beirut, Lebanon.
The money will go towards creating a three-year higher education vocational and technical training programme based at the Dekwaneh Centre, South East Beirut, and the Ain El- Remmaneh Centre, South Beirut, and will also support disadvantaged Lebanese students.
