Derek Stillie – who played for Aberdeen, Dundee United and Dunfermline Athletic during his career – will be looking to take the seat from SNP incumbent Tom Arthur, who is running to retain his place for a second term. Following his retirement from football in 2008, the Irvine man pursued a career as a lawyer but has been aiming to secure a switch to politics since 2019, when he ran as the Tory candidate for Central Ayrshire in the snap general election.
