Wiltshire currently has 1,101 police officers, the highest number of serving officers in six years. A further 120 student officers are set to start training over the next 12 months and the latest campaign is seeking applicants for places from January 2022 onwards. The recruitment drive is part of the Government’s promise to recruit an additional 20,000 police officers by 2023 through the national Police Officer Uplift programme. In Wiltshire, 60 police officers were hired through direct funding from the national Uplift programme, against the target set of 49. A further 31 officers were recruited through the local policing precept increases paid through the council tax, to cover normal planned recruitment to replace officers retiring or leaving.

Ben Dale and his family, Emilia, Gabriela and wife Laura.
During his time at the IN4.0 Academy, Ben completed an industry project with BAE Systems and supported its Factory of the Future project, which gave him a valuable insight into the advanced manufacturing and technology sector.
Prior to the academy, Ben felt the stress and pressure of job seeking during the pandemic and planning out his career path after completing a master’s in chemistry at Lancaster University.
Ben said: “I’ve got a young family and I wanted to settle down in a stable career in Lancashire, so the digital sector seemed like a safe area to be in, particularly after the impact of Covid-19, there’s still a huge demand for it.
A FATHER of two has credited a digital skills programme founded by a Blackburn entrepreneur with launching his new career. Ben Dale, 27, now works with Chorley-based Inscape Interiors where he manages multiple projects involving software, data management and cyber security. This opportunity was made possible, Mr Dale says, thanks to his involvement in a 12 week skills training programme set up by IN4.0 Group, founded by Blackburn-born entrepreneur Mo Isap. Mr Dale, from Lancaster, said: “I’ve got a young family and I wanted to settle down in a stable career in Lancashire, so the digital sector seemed like a safe area to be in, particularly after the impact of Covid-19, there’s still a huge demand for it.
Mercedes’ ‘Accelerate 25’ programme to increase diversity in motorsport engineering is moving at full steam, and on Thursday the team announced they have launched a new partnership with the Association for Black and Minority Ethnic Engineers UK (AFBE-UK).
The Accelerate 25 programme aims to have at least 25% of new employees at Mercedes come from under-represented groups every year up to and including 2025. To that aim, the Silver Arrows have already launched the STEM Academy partnership with the help of Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff, along with a partnership with the Stemettes to encourage women into pursuing STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) careers.
