Health officer rescinds more restrictive October Risk Reduction Order

Santa Clara County officials happily announced Tuesday that the county will move to the state s yellow tier on Wednesday, the least-restrictive level for reopening during the pandemic. The county will also rescind its October Risk Reduction Order, which put additional limits on businesses to protect employees and the public. We have a clear path out of this pandemic, county Health Officer Dr. Sara Cody said during a noon press conference in San Jose on Tuesday. For the first time, I feel optimistic. For a while, it seemed uncertain to me whether the vaccines or the variants would win. And now it looks like Team Vaccine will come out on top, she said.

California officials approved moving San Mateo County into the state s least-restrictive COVID-19 tier on Tuesday, allowing for more freedom of movement and larger gatherings just before summer begins.
The new designation allows fully vaccinated people to go without face coverings outdoors at gatherings, except at large or crowded events. It also allows expanded indoor capacity at restaurants, gyms, movie theaters, businesses and many other operations. Bars that don t serve food can reopen indoors with a maximum capacity of 25% or 100 people, whichever is fewer, according to the state s Blueprint for a Safer Economy.

A survey of Santa Clara County residents to understand their attitudes toward the COVID-19 pandemic and vaccines could help health officials understand what might prevent the remaining roughly 25% of adult residents from getting vaccinated or completing their second dose.
The EMC Research survey of 1,000 county residents, the fifth conducted since May 2020, found that optimism has rebounded since the winter infection surge, and concerns related to COVID-19 have waned. About 74% of respondents said they have been either fully or partially vaccinated and 9% said they are interested in being vaccinated soon. But the remainder about 16% exp

When Vural heard the CDC announcement, he wasn t sure whether or not businesses would be required to follow the new directive and allow staff to take off their masks.
Throughout the pandemic, Vural said he has been cautious and vigilant, paying attention to ICU-admittance numbers to keep track of the coronavirus s impact in his area. Currently, all 24 employees across his two stores must wear masks.
