MORONGO BASIN MAC MEETS ONLINE TONIGHT

The Morongo Basin Municipal Advisory Council will gather online tonight (March 8) for its first meeting since November. Reporter Heather Clisby has the details … With the disruption of COVID-19 barring most public in-person meetings, the Morongo Basin Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) will host tonight’s (March 8) meeting via Zoom. Supervisor Dawn Rowe will attend to administer the swearing in of all MAC Board members. The meeting will also include elections for MAC Council positions of Chair, Co-Chair and Secretary. The evening will feature public safety reports from local fire and law enforcement. The agenda also includes a Chairman’s Report as well as individual reports from each of the nine non-incorporated regions: Copper Mountain Mesa, Desert Heights, Flamingo Heights, Joshua Tree, Landers, Morongo Valley, Pioneertown, Wonder Valley, and Yucca Mesa.

Sedona Red Rock News Sedona Red Rock High School’s girls basketball team entered its home gym for a game against Desert Heights Prep on Wednesday, Feb. 17, with a perfect record. The Scorpions left the gym the same way. Playing for the second consecutive night, the SRRHS attack wasn’t always as crisp as it’s been for much of the season. But the end result was a familiar one in that Sedona not only won, but won decisively, finishing on the right end of a 61-26 final score. “We tried our hardest we know that this wasn’t our best game,” sophomore guard Mayra Parra-Landaverde said. “Even though we missed a lot of shots and did some bad stuff, we tried our hardest and pushed through the pain from the last game.”

MULTIPLE RAIDS ON ILLEGAL MARIJUANA GROWS WEDNESDAY

Nearly nine pounds of marijuana, and more than 2600 marijuana plants were seized in multiple raids in the Desert Heights neighborhood of Twentynine Palms Wednesday morning. The Sheriff’s Department had received numerous complaints about large, outdoor illegal marijuana grows in the area, and about 9 a.m. Wednesday, investigators from the Marijuana Enforcement Team served four search warrants on locations in the area; they seized 8.9 pounds of processed marijuana and 2,665 marijuana plants. While serving the search warrants, deputies found a hidden bunker that had been dug into the ground; inside were two men, Victor Hipolito-Estrada, 20, and Jose Rico-Garcia, 35, both of Mexico. Deputies arrested Hipolito-Estrada, Rico-Garcia; and Alexis Frias, 34, of Mendocino, for investigation of cultivation of cannabis. Victor Hipolito-Estrada, Jose Rico-Garcia, and Alexis Frias were booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, cited and released.
