  The United Nations Development Partnership says the existing Police Act is outdated. UNDP effective governance deputy team leader Nanise Suane-Qaloewai said the existing police act which was passed 56 years ago needs to be modernised. Suane-Qaloewai in her address said there was a need for Fiji to review the existing Police bill as there were many international treaties the country was committed to. She said there was also a need for Fiji to review the existing bill for officers to take advantage of the opportunities modern technology offers the force to carry out their duties. “Updating the existing police bill is a critical exercise as the current act was passed in 1965, there was a need for it to be brought in the 21st century.”
